Ghana's music industry gathered to celebrate its biggest names, and one artiste stood out well above the rest. Black Sherif emerged as the dominant figure of the 2026 Ghana Music Awards, walking away with a string of the night's most sought after honours.
His haul made him the clear headline of the ceremony, which brought together artistes, industry figures and fans from across the country. The results underlined his growing standing within Ghana's vibrant and highly competitive music scene.
The centrepiece of his evening was the top prize itself. According to the results, Black Sherif was named Artiste of the Year at the 27th edition of the Ghana Music Awards, an event sponsored by Telecel Ghana and regarded as the country's leading music honours.
He did not stop there. His project Iron Boy was recognised as Album or EP of the Year, adding one of the most prestigious album categories to his tally and confirming the strong reception that the release had enjoyed among listeners.
The recognition extended to his individual tracks as well. His song Sacrifice was named Best Afropop Song, while the very same track also helped to earn him the award for Songwriter of the Year, a nod to his work as a writer and creator.
Another of his songs added further to the collection. According to the results, Where Dem Boyz was named Best Hip Hop Song of the Year, rounding off a remarkable set of wins across several different categories in a single night.
Black Sherif was far from the only artiste to enjoy success. The highlife star Kofi Kinaata took home two awards, winning Best Highlife Song for It Is Finished as well as being named Best Highlife Artiste of the Year at the ceremony.
Other established names were also recognised on the night. Stonebwoy won the award for Best Reggae and Dancehall Artiste of the Year, while Wendy Shay was named Best Afrobeats and Afropop Artist, reflecting the wide range of styles on show.
The ceremony also looked beyond Ghana's own artistes for one of its categories. In the Best African Song category, the award went to the track With You by the Nigerian star Davido, featuring his fellow Nigerian artiste Omah Lay.
There was recognition for a lifetime of work as well. The legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba received the Lifetime Achievement Award, a tribute to a long career that has left a deep and lasting mark on Ghanaian music.
The awards were handed out on the 9th of May 2026. The ceremony took place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre in the capital, a venue that has hosted many of the country's major public events over the years.
For Black Sherif in particular, the night marked another significant step in a fast rising career. His success at the awards reflects both his own momentum and the continued strength and creativity of the music now emerging from Ghana.
