Police have taken a man into custody in connection with a murder inside a luxury apartment building in Long Island City, Queens, according to Eyewitness News ABC7NY. Officers say the man was naked and on the roof of the building when they arrived.
The victim was identified as 36-year-old Carlos Penzo, the station reported. He was found stabbed to death in the bathtub of his apartment.
Penzo had suffered wounds to his head, face and chest, according to police cited by the station. The nature of the injuries pointed to a violent attack inside the home.
Police say a knife and a taser were in Penzo's lap, the report said. Another knife was found on the bed and a third in the sink.
According to police, the man later taken into custody had been seen on the roof spraying a fire extinguisher at security cameras, the station reported. He then tried to break into Penzo's fourth-floor apartment.
Detectives returned to the Queens luxury rental to continue their investigation, according to Eyewitness News ABC7NY. The building sits in Long Island City, an area residents described as usually very safe.
Police say they are still looking for potential witnesses in the case, the station reported. Investigators believe there could have been two other men in the apartment when the killing took place.
