Two Westchester men have pleaded guilty to setting the fire that heavily damaged the historic Tarrytown Lighthouse last year, according to Eyewitness News ABC7NY. The guilty pleas mark a resolution in a case that struck one of the area's best-known landmarks.
Prosecutors say the fire caused more than $100,000 in damage to the landmark, the station reported. The blaze had heavily damaged the historic structure.
The fire was set back in May 2025, according to the report. The case has moved through the courts in the time since.
The two men who pleaded guilty were identified as 19-year-old Elvin Ayavaca and 20-year-old Richard Barrero, the station reported.
Under the terms described by Eyewitness News ABC7NY, each man must pay $50,000 in restitution. The restitution is tied to the damage caused to the lighthouse.
Each man must also perform 150 hours of community service, according to the report. The community service is part of the resolution of the case against them.
Two other defendants in the case were charged as juveniles, the station reported. Their cases were handled separately from those of the two men who pleaded guilty.
