A Perth court has heard disturbing allegations involving a paediatrician accused of sexually assaulting one of his patients. The case was laid out during a hearing in which prosecutors detailed the scope of the allegations against the doctor.
The paediatrician, named in court as Chia Liang-sor, is accused of sexually assaulting one of his patients who was under 16, and of possessing child exploitation material. The accused is a specialist in child behavioural issues.
The court was told that he may have offended against up to nine children and that he used hidden cameras to document his alleged crimes. The police prosecutor revealed there could be charges relating to as many as nine victims.
According to the court, the specialist operated from clinics in Midland and Nedlands. The offending is alleged to have occurred between 2023 and 2026, over a period of several years at those locations.
During his bail hearing, Magistrate Janelle Scutt said hidden cameras placed in the examination room were said to have captured the offences. The accused showed no reaction as he appeared in court via video link from Hakea Prison.
Alongside the criminal proceedings, Australia's medical regulator, AHPRA, has suspended the paediatrician. The case remains before the court as the allegations are tested through the justice system.
