A man in his early 20s has died following a two-vehicle collision in Brampton, in a crash that also sent five other people to hospital. The collision happened at around 10:45 p.m., near McVean Drive and Countryside Road.
According to police, the man who died was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the collision. He was pronounced dead in connection with the crash on the city's roads.
Five other men, also in their early 20s, were taken to hospital following the collision. Among them were both of the drivers and three other passengers who had been in the vehicles at the time of the crash.
Two of those taken to hospital suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. The remaining people who were hurt were also taken away for medical treatment after the collision.
The crash involved two vehicles, and all of those caught up in it were young men of a similar age. The circumstances left one of the group dead and several others fighting serious injuries.
Officers responded to the scene late in the evening, and the area near McVean Drive and Countryside Road was held while the investigation got under way. The collision turned a stretch of Brampton road into the focus of a serious police inquiry.
Police have not yet said what led up to the collision. The investigation into how the two vehicles came together, and what caused the death and injuries, was continuing.
