A 24-year-old Canmore woman has died following a single-vehicle collision on Sunday morning, about two kilometres west of the Banff Park gates. Police say the woman was declared dead at the scene, and traffic was restricted to one lane while the collision was investigated.

A 24-year-old woman from Canmore has died following a single-vehicle collision on Sunday morning, just west of Banff. Police say the crash happened at around 5:30 a.m.

The collision took place approximately two kilometres west of the Banff Park gates. It was there, along the route, that the vehicle came to grief in the early hours of the morning.

According to police, the woman was declared dead at the scene of the collision. She was the only person reported to have been involved in the single-vehicle crash.

As officers carried out their work, traffic in the area was restricted to one lane. The partial closure remained in place while the collision was examined and the scene was attended to.

Banff RCMP led the response to the crash. The force extended its condolences to the woman's family and friends in the wake of the loss.

The single-vehicle nature of the collision meant no other vehicles were reported to have been caught up in what happened on the road west of the park gates.

Police did not immediately say what had led to the collision. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash was continuing as the route was gradually returned to normal.
