A man from Brampton with a history of firearm offences is back in police custody after allegedly firing shots at police officers in Mississauga on Sunday morning. According to the information reported by CityNews Toronto, the incident unfolded on Lucknow Drive, where officers were present when the events began.
According to the account, officers on Lucknow Drive saw a man running away from a nearby establishment. The man was jumping fences and was wearing a mask as he moved away from the area, drawing the attention of the officers who were on the road at the time.
When the officers tried to speak with him, the man took off and fired shots at them, according to the reported allegations. As a result of the shooting, two officers were treated for minor injuries during the confrontation.
The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Isaiah Bachu. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and it was there that police took him into custody following the incident on Lucknow Drive.
At the time of his arrest, Bachu was subject to multiple court-ordered firearms bans connected to previous firearm-related convictions dating back to 2023. Among those measures was a lifetime ban that prohibited him from possessing guns or ammunition.
With the suspect in custody and the two officers treated for their minor injuries, the case adds to the record of a man already known to authorities for earlier firearm offences. The arrest followed the shooting reported on Sunday morning in the Lucknow Drive area of Mississauga.
