One person has died after an early-morning fire broke out inside an apartment unit in North York. Two other people were taken to hospital and a firefighter was also injured as emergency crews responded to the blaze, the cause of which is now under investigation.
The fire was reported at a building near Victoria Park and Eglinton Avenue. Emergency crews were called to the scene for what was classified as a two-alarm blaze, a designation that reflects the additional resources brought in to bring the fire under control.

Beyond the fatality, two other people were taken to hospital for what were described as possible smoke inhalation injuries. Their conditions were not detailed as crews worked through the aftermath of the fire.
A firefighter was also hurt during the response to the blaze, adding to the toll from an incident that drew a significant emergency presence to the North York building in the middle of the night.
Officials have said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. No further details about the person who died or the precise circumstances of the blaze have been released at this stage.
