A Toronto police officer was struck by a stolen vehicle on the Leeside Bridge in East York early Monday, and the same officer fired multiple shots as the car sped away. Police say the alleged driver, a 12-year-old boy who was injured, now faces charges including attempted murder, while two other boys were allegedly passengers and one suspect remains outstanding.

A Toronto police officer was struck by a vehicle on the Leeside Bridge in an East York neighbourhood. According to police, the incident came to a head at around 1 a.m. on Monday.

The case involved a car that had reportedly been stolen from a nearby subway station. The vehicle was in the area when the officer was struck on the bridge.

As the car sped away, the same officer fired multiple shots at the stolen vehicle. Audio captured at the scene recorded the sound of the officer firing at least five shots at the car.

Police say the alleged driver of the stolen vehicle was a 12-year-old boy, who was injured in the course of the events on the bridge.

That 12-year-old now faces several charges. According to police, they include attempted murder, theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving.

In addition to the driver, police say a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were allegedly passengers in the stolen vehicle. At this point, one suspect is still outstanding.

The events have weighed heavily on the local police. According to those speaking on behalf of the service, the officers involved are hurting and devastated, but say they intend to move past what happened.
