Two US pilots are reported dead after a plane crash in the Dominican Republic. The incident involved a private aircraft and ended with the deaths of both people on board, according to the account of the crash.
The country's Civil Aviation Institute said the private plane was headed to Texas. According to the institute, the aircraft was declared an emergency after takeoff, signaling that something had gone wrong soon after it left the ground.
Minutes later, the jet crashed at La Romana International Airport. Footage of the incident showed the aircraft going down and bursting into flames at the airport.
The airport said the two pilots were the only people on board the plane. There were no passengers, with the crew making up the entirety of those on the flight.
Both pilots are reported to have died in the crash. The loss of the two on board marked the full extent of the casualties from the incident at the airport.
Authorities are now trying to determine what caused the crash. The investigation will focus on what went wrong in the minutes between the emergency being declared after takeoff and the aircraft going down.
