Police officers have been injured during "serious disorder" in Glasgow following Celtic’s Scottish Premiership title win on Saturday evening (Sky News). The incident occurred in the Trongate area of the city where around 3,000 supporters gathered to celebrate their team's victory over Hearts (Evening Standard).
The celebration turned chaotic as Celtic fans stormed the pitch after scoring a winning goal late into stoppage time. A Hearts player has spoken out about being caught up in the violence, describing how he and other players were used as human shields during the melee (Mirror). The player, Christian Borchgrevink, said: "It was complete chaos... People were getting worried."
The Scottish Police Federation called for urgent talks with Celtic after 'unacceptable violence' was shown towards officers during the celebrations. A statement from the federation read that police had been targeted by missiles and glass bottles (Daily Mail).
In the aftermath of the disorder, Hearts players left the pitch bloodied as they faced verbal and physical abuse from fans. The club has reported serious physical and verbal abuse towards their players and staff both on the pitch and elsewhere.
