Human Rights Watch has described the US strike on a primary school in Minab, Iran as a potential war crime. The attack killed 120 children when precision-guided Tomahawk missiles hit the school on the first day of the war.
Under international humanitarian law, combatants must take constant care to spare civilians. HRW research indicates the school was clearly marked on maps for over a decade.
The organisation questioned whether the attack occurred because civilian protection infrastructure within the Department of Defense was dismantled under Trump and Hegseth.
Despite early assessments indicating US responsibility, the administration has not formally admitted to the strike after nearly three months.
