The UK Health Security Agency has confirmed a fourth case of meningococcal disease in Reading, with links to the same wider social network as the previous three cases. All four cases are confirmed to be meningitis B.
The individual attends Westwood Farm Junior School and is recovering well. Information has been shared with parents and carers at the school about signs and symptoms to look out for. Antibiotics and prophylaxis have already been implemented.
The UKHSA reports that the risk to the wider public remains low. These cases are not linked to the meningitis incidents seen earlier this year in Kent or Dorset.
