Romanian Creative Week 2026 opened its doors in Iasi on May 13, transforming the eastern Romanian city into Europe's creative capital for 12 consecutive days. Now in its sixth edition, the event organized by the Federation of Employers of Creative Industries (FEPIC) brings together over 1,200 artists, designers, architects and entrepreneurs from more than 10 countries, with a program of over 700 events spread across the city. This marks the first edition organized under the High Patronage of Romania's Presidential Administration, signaling official recognition of RCW as a strategic cultural event.
Under the theme JOY - Joy as Resistance, the 2026 edition explores creativity as an act of resilience in uncertain times. Creativity is becoming one of the most important resources of contemporary society, declared Irina Schrotter, FEPIC president and RCW founder, at the opening ceremony. RCW is a collective story about courage and the belief that Romania can be a place where talent doesn't just emerge, but can build its future here.
The program spans eight pillars: Arts, Content Creation, Creative Entrepreneurship, Design, Education, Innovation and Digital, New Media, and Sustainability and Creative Communities. Over 60% of participants are young artists, and the event features approximately 50 permanent installations and exhibitions across heritage locations in Iasi, including the Palace of Culture and the International Center of Contemporary Art at Baia Turceasca.
The Creativity Conferences (May 15-17) feature prominent Romanian intellectuals including Theodor Paleologu, Radu Paraschivescu, Lavinia Barlogeanu, Armand Gosu and Catalin Striblea. The Iasi Entrepreneurs Summit on May 14 brings together over 500 entrepreneurs for discussions on business strategy, marketing, investment and legislation. Romanian Fashion Week, curated by Ovidiu Buta - the Romanian stylist with over 20 years of international experience who has worked with Kanye West and Sebastian Stan - presents a record number of designers including Irina Schrotter, Scapadona, Andrea Tincu, Ramona Bizbac and Tudor Halatiu.
The 2026 edition features international artists of the highest caliber. Spanish choreographer Manuel Linan, winner of Spain's National Dance Prize and considered one of contemporary flamenco's most innovative artists, presents Muerta de Amor. The opening party on May 12 featured Charles B, a DJ and producer present on major world stages including Tomorrowland, who transformed Palas Gardens into an immersive electronic music stage with lasers and scenography.
The film program includes premieres and cult classics: Jean-Luc Godard's A bout de souffle, Richard Linklater's Before trilogy, the premiere of Francois Ozon's The Stranger, and Sally Potter's Orlando. The Kaleidoscope installation by architect Silvan Cimpoesu and Joy Pavilion designed by architect Eliza Yokina complete the city's artistic landscape, alongside NeMO Music Festival and PlayEscapes 4.0.
Romanian Creative Week has grown exponentially since its first edition in 2021. In 2023, the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) designated it as the event bringing together the most creative industries in the European Union. In 2024, over one million people interacted with 200 events, generating more than 20 million social media interactions. In 2025, Romania's Ministry of Culture included RCW among the country's strategic cultural events, and the festival expanded with an autumn edition in Bucharest.
Institutional partners for 2026 include the Ministry of Culture, Iasi City Hall, the County Council, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University and the National University of Arts. Corporate sponsors UniCredit, Iulius, Vodafone, Banca Transilvania, Raiffeisen, Audi, Lancome and Stella Artois support an event that has permanently transformed Iasi's position on Europe's creative map. Entry to most events is free, with the full program available through the RCW Agenda mobile app.
