Two men have been charged following the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old man in Clapham, south London, over the weekend, the Metropolitan Police say. Javed Khan, 22, has been charged with murder and violent disorder, and Andane Burhan, 27, with assisting an offender, with both due before magistrates in Bromley. Six people were arrested during the investigation, with one man remaining in custody and three released with no further action.

The charges mark the first formal step in a murder investigation that was launched after the young man died from a stab wound, and both of those charged are due to appear before magistrates as the case moves into the courts.

According to the account given, police were called at 4.37 in the morning on Saturday following reports that a man had attended hospital with a stab wound. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the 22-year-old died, turning what began as a report of an injured man into a murder inquiry. Officers' inquiries indicated that he had been stabbed in Clapham before he made his way to hospital.

In the hours and days that followed, the Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation and made a series of arrests. Six individuals were arrested on suspicion of murder as detectives worked to establish exactly what had happened and who was involved in the death of the young man in the early hours of the weekend.

Two of those arrested have now been charged. Javed Khan, aged 22, of Maskell Road in Wandsworth, has been charged with murder and violent disorder. Andane Burhan, 27, of Mason's Avenue in Croydon, has been charged with assisting an offender. Both men were due to appear before magistrates in Bromley on Monday morning, marking the start of the court process in the case.

The position of the others arrested was also set out. A 25-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody as inquiries continue. Meanwhile, three other men who had been arrested on suspicion of murder have since been released with no further action following the investigation carried out by detectives.

With two men charged and one still held, the case now moves towards the courts, where the charges will be formally dealt with. The Metropolitan Police indicated that the investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the legal process develops around the death of the 22-year-old in Clapham.
