The alert came just as the school day was getting under way. It was sent out by the school itself, shortly after 8:30 in the morning. The school then went into lockdown as a precaution. Pupils were told to stay inside their classrooms while the situation was dealt with.

The response on the ground was substantial. There was a large emergency services presence at the scene. This included a helicopter sent to the location. Greater Manchester Police say they were called to reports of a stabbing.

Police quickly made an arrest in connection with the incident. A 14-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault. She remains in custody as the investigation continues. Officers say they are not looking for anyone else over what happened.
