Health workers and members of the general public gathered at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital for the commissioning of the hospital's new paediatric unit. The ceremony brought together those who work at the facility along with residents who turned up to mark the opening of the dedicated children's section.

According to the details shared, the new unit is made up of several parts. It consists of a ward, a resuscitation centre, and a lounge for doctors, nurses and other health workers, bringing together both treatment space and a working area for the staff who will run the unit.

The paediatric unit was facilitated by the commandant of the Army War College, Major General Omar Mohamed Adqali. His involvement linked the institution to the provision of the new children's facility at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital.

The project was described as part of efforts to reduce morbidity among children under five years old. By providing a dedicated ward and resuscitation centre for young patients, the unit is intended to improve the care available to that age group at the hospital.

Speaking on the importance of the initiative, it was stressed that children represent the future of society. Their health, growth and development were described as fundamental to the progress and prosperity of any nation, underlining why attention to child health was seen as a priority.

The commissioning of the paediatric unit ties in with the state government's free health care services for children under five years old. Together, the new facility and the free services are aimed at easing access to care for the youngest patients and supporting efforts to bring down child morbidity in the area.
