Residents along the Apo resettlement area of Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory have welcomed some relief following the commissioning of a newly completed road project by the FCT administration. The development is part of a wider effort to expand infrastructure and ease daily movement across the nation's capital.
The road comprises the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway, running from the Ring Road 1 to the Ring Road 2 junction. According to the administration, the project was awarded in October 2025, specifically to ease the traffic congestion that had built up in the area.
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the commissioning ceremony. Standing in for the President, he performed the formal commissioning of the project and addressed residents who turned out for the occasion.
Akpabio said the federal government remains committed to completing all ongoing projects across the country. He presented the delivery of the road as evidence that performance, rather than excuses, now guides the administration's approach to public infrastructure, in line with its renewed agenda.
Officials said the road is one of several infrastructure developments being undertaken by the FCT administration to enhance mobility and accelerate growth across the nation's capital. Several other projects, they noted, are scheduled for commissioning in the coming days.
The administration also stressed that its infrastructure drive is not confined to the city center alone, but is being spread across the various area councils that make up the Federal Capital Territory. The commissioning, it said, reflects a commitment to providing quality infrastructure and improving the standard of living for FCT residents.
