The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP, has nominated Latifat Shomi Kolako as its deputy governorship candidate. She will run on the party's ticket alongside its governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, completing the pairing the party intends to field in the state.
According to the party, the nominee is a media practitioner by training and experience. She hails from Abeokuta South local government area, which falls within Ogun's central senatorial district, giving the ticket a footing in that part of the state.
Kolako was formally unveiled at a ceremony held at the party's secretariat along the Presidential Boulevard in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The venue served as the setting for the party to present its deputy governorship candidate to its members and the public.
The declaration ceremony attracted a broad cross-section of the party, including party leaders, stakeholders, youth groups, women organizations and supporters who gathered from across the state. Their presence underscored the attention the PDP is giving to the rollout of its governorship ticket.
Speaking at the event, the party's governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, seized the occasion to call for unity of purpose among party members. He urged those within the PDP to close ranks as the party prepares for the contest ahead.
Adebutu also expressed optimism that the party would emerge victorious in the next general election. With the unveiling of his running mate, the PDP in Ogun has now presented a complete governorship pairing as it positions itself for the coming polls.
