Tinubu swears in new Power Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in two newly appointed ministers, Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power and Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, at the State House in Abuja. The ceremony came as the President also received the President of Madagascar, and the new Power Minister pledged to fix challenges across generation, transmission and distribution.

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in two newly appointed ministers, reinforcing his cabinet with fresh hands for two important portfolios. Joseph Tegbe was sworn in as Minister of Power, while Sola Enikanolaiye took the oath as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday at the President's office inside the State House in Abuja. Though brief, the event formally inducted the two new ministers into the federal cabinet and assigned them to their respective offices.

The ceremony was witnessed by the spouses of the two new ministers, the Chief of Staff to the President, and other senior government officials, who gathered at the seat of government for the oath-taking. Their presence underscored the significance the presidency attached to the appointments.

The induction came as President Tinubu also played host to a visiting foreign leader at the seat of power. Earlier, the President had received the President of Madagascar, Michael Randrianirina, at the presidential villa in Abuja, where the guest was led into Tinubu's office for a private meeting.

Speaking after his swearing-in, the new Minister of Power signalled that his immediate focus would be on improving electricity delivery for citizens. He stressed the need to ensure that Nigerians actually get the service they deserve in the power sector, framing it as the central goal of his assignment.

The minister added that the President understands the challenges facing the sector and that those challenges are already being addressed. He pledged that the administration would work to fix the problems across generation, transmission and distribution, the three key links in the country's electricity supply chain.
