Nigeria's Super Falcons are sharpening their preparations for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations with a fresh test against Senegal. The team has opted for a more intense approach to its second international friendly against Senegal's Taranga Lionesses, building on a winning start to the two-match series.
The first meeting between the sides went Nigeria's way. The 10-time African champions edged their opponents 2-1 on Friday, a narrow result that gave the Super Falcons the early advantage over the Senegalese in the series.
Their coach wants more discipline in the rematch. Head coach Justine Madougou says the team will be more intentional when they face Senegal for the second time, signalling a desire to tighten up after the closely fought opener.
The second clash has a set venue. The two teams meet again at the Remo Star Sports Complex, giving the Super Falcons another competitive run-out against familiar opposition before the continental tournament.
For both sides, the friendlies are part of a bigger build-up. Nigeria and Senegal are looking ahead to the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which begins next month in Morocco, using the matches to fine-tune their squads before the competition.
Nigeria will arrive with a strong pedigree and clear ambitions. The Falcons, who will be gunning for a record-extending 11th title, have been drawn in Group C, where they will face Egypt, Zambia and debutants Malawi.
Senegal, meanwhile, face a different path at the tournament. They have been placed in Group A alongside host nation Morocco, Algeria and Kenya, in a competition scheduled to run from July 25 to August 16 in Morocco.
