Edo Queens produced a commanding display to beat Abia Angels 6-2 in Nigeria's women's league premiership, in the Super 6 playoffs. The heavy scoreline underlined the gap between the two sides on the day, with Edo Queens scoring freely while Abia Angels were left chasing the game for long stretches. It was a result that capped off the stage of the competition in emphatic fashion.
At the heart of the win was Chioma Moses, who delivered a standout individual performance. She scored four of her team's six goals, carrying the attack and proving the difference between the two sides. A four-goal haul in a single match is a rare feat, and it made her the central figure in Edo Queens' victory.
Edo Queens made a fast start to the contest. Moses opened the scoring just three minutes into the game, giving her side an early lead and setting the tone for what was to follow. That quick goal put Abia Angels on the back foot almost from the first whistle.
Abia Angels did manage to respond in the opening stages. Maryam Abdurashid leveled the score in the 11th minute, briefly pulling her side back on terms. For a short while the match looked evenly poised, with both teams having found the net early on.
The balance did not last, however, as Moses struck again to restore Edo Queens' lead just before halftime. That goal allowed her side to go into the break in front and with the momentum, having reasserted control of the contest after Abia Angels' equaliser.
After the restart, Edo Queens pulled further clear. Precious Oscar added their third goal in the 52nd minute, before Moses took over once more to complete her tally, with another Edo Queens player also getting on the scoresheet. The goals continued to flow, and Abia Angels found it increasingly difficult to contain the Edo Queens attack.
Abia Angels did have the final say in the scoring, with Blessing Saleh netting in the 87th minute to reduce the deficit. It was little more than a consolation, though, as Edo Queens held firm to seal a 6-2 win and round off their day in the Super 6 playoffs with a display of their attacking strength.
