Edo Queens crowned 2026 NWFL champions after Bayelsa Queens draw

Edo Queens have won the Nigeria Women Football League title for the second time, finishing top of the Super 6 playoff in Port Harcourt. A goalless draw with defending champions Bayelsa Queens in the final round sealed the crown for coach Moses Aduku's side.

Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the Nigeria Women Football League, claiming the title at the conclusion of the Super 6 playoff. The Benin-based side finished top of the final stage, which wrapped up in Port Harcourt, to lift the trophy for the second time in the club's history.

The title was sealed in the decisive final-round fixture against defending champions Bayelsa Queens. Edo Queens held Bayelsa to a goalless draw, a result that proved enough to keep them at the summit of the Super 6 standings and confirm them as the new league winners.

Both sides ended the playoff level on 10 points, but it was Edo Queens who came out on top to take the championship, with Bayelsa Queens having to settle for the runners-up position. The outcome underlined how tight the race for the title had been right up to the closing game.

The triumph was all the more notable given how the campaign began. Edo Queens did not start the Super 6 well, losing their opening fixture, but recovered over the course of the playoff to overhaul their rivals and finish as the best-performing team in the competition.

For head coach Moses Aduku, the victory marked his third league championship overall. He had previously won the title with Bayelsa Queens in 2022, and the latest success is his second with Edo Queens, having also guided the Benin club to the crown in 2024.

Edo Queens, who have previously finished third at the CAF Women's Champions League, now turn their attention to the Federation Cup, where they face Nasarawa Amazons. The club's management said the focus shifts immediately to that competition and to preparations for continental action, with the side chasing a domestic double.
