The National Youth Service Corps has suspended the 2026 Batch B Stream 1 orientation for prospective corps members posted to Niger State. The decision affects those who were due to report to the state for the exercise. It interrupts what is normally one of the busiest periods on the service calendar. The suspension was announced as the orientation was getting under way across the country.
According to the scheme, the suspension is due to ongoing renovation work at the orientation camp. The works are intended to put the facilities in a fit state to receive the incoming corps members. Until they are completed, the camp cannot host the orientation programme. The pause is therefore tied directly to the condition of the camp.
In a notice posted on its official X handle, the scheme apologised for the inconvenience. It said it regretted the disruption caused to affected prospective corps members and their parents. The scheme assured them that fresh arrangements would be communicated in due course. It urged those concerned to await further information.
The suspension follows earlier infrastructure challenges at the Paiko Orientation Camp in Niger State. There, a windstorm had damaged key facilities at the site. The damage left parts of the camp unable to function as required for the orientation. It is this setback that the renovation work is now seeking to address.
In response to the damage, Governor Mohammed Bago ordered immediate repairs at the camp. The intervention was meant to restore the facilities as quickly as possible. The current suspension shows that the work is still under way. The state and the scheme are effectively waiting for the camp to be ready.
Niger State is not the only place to be affected by such delays. The scheme noted that similar postponements linked to renovation works had earlier been recorded in Enugu and Osun states. Nationwide, the 2026 Batch B Stream 1 orientation exercise commenced on 10 June. It is scheduled to end on 30 June 2026.
