The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a vehicle carrying a cache of arms. According to the report, the interception took place within the last 24 hours as part of the command's operations in the state.
Alongside the weapons, the vehicle was found to be carrying uniforms. These were camouflage uniforms of the type usually associated with the Nigerian army, adding a further dimension to the seizure.
The state police commissioner provided details of the operation. He addressed journalists on Tuesday, setting out what the command had uncovered during the interception of the vehicle and its cargo.
According to the commissioner, the operation was allegedly conveying the military uniforms to a particular destination. He said the items were said to be on their way to the southeast at the time the vehicle was stopped.
In connection with the incident, the police confirmed that arrests had been made. Four suspects have been taken into custody as the command works to establish the full circumstances surrounding the movement of the arms and uniforms.
The four suspects are currently assisting investigators with the inquiry. According to the command, this is part of efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the importation of the items that were recovered from the vehicle.
