Police operatives in a joint operation have neutralised four kidnap suspects and rescued five victims within 24 hours near a forest in Ogun State, in southwestern Nigeria.

According to the commissioners of police in Lagos and Ogun States, the joint operation was codenamed COSAE, which the force said means "no space" in the Yoruba dialect.

The commissioners indicated that the operation would be sustained consistently across the forests of the two states.

The breakthrough followed a circulating video that alerted road users and security personnel to kidnappers holding victims in the forest area in Ogun State.

News of the incident triggered an immediate response from police officers in Lagos and Ogun State, who moved into the forest in search of the captives.

The rescued victims, still reeling from the experience, recounted their ordeal in the hands of their abductors.
