Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state. The measure comes amid concerns over security in parts of the state, particularly in communities located close to the old Oyo National Park.

According to a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, the curfew takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The directive sets out the period during which movement will be restricted in the affected areas.

Under the order, the curfew will run for 16 hours each day, from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. The restriction is to apply for an initial period of 48 hours in the first instance, after which the situation is expected to be reviewed.

The state government said the curfew affects local government areas bordering the old Oyo National Park. The decision reflects the focus of the authorities on the communities around the park, which lie at the centre of the current security concerns.

The 10 affected local government areas are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East and Atisbo. The list also includes Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba, all of which fall within the zone covered by the new restriction.

By limiting movement during the specified hours, the state government aims to strengthen security across the affected councils. The 48-hour first phase is intended as an immediate response, with the curfew framed as part of efforts to address the security situation in the area.
