Another batch of Nigerian returnees has arrived home from South Africa. The arrival comes as the federal government continues its evacuation program for citizens.
A total of 66 returnees landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Wednesday night. Their arrival marked the latest stage of the ongoing operation.
With the new arrivals, the total number of citizens evacuated so far has risen to 324. The figure reflects the cumulative count across the batches brought home.
The first batch, made up of 258 returnees, had arrived earlier this month. That earlier group formed the bulk of those evacuated up to this point.
According to the report, the latest evacuation was approved by President Bola Tinubu. The flight was facilitated by the airline ValueJet.
The operation was carried out with the support of Nigerian diplomatic officials in South Africa. The government has indicated that the evacuation program for its citizens is continuing.
