A High Court in Sokoto has sentenced three people to death by hanging following their conviction on charges bordering on terrorism and arms proliferation. The three convicts include a foreign national, and the sentence was handed down after the court found them guilty of the offences brought against them.

The convicts were identified as Jabbi Alhaji Yalle, a national of the Niger Republic, Yusuf Muhammad, also known as Sallau, and Kabiru Muhammad. All three were tried together in the case that culminated in the death sentences.

According to the proceedings, the convicts were apprehended on 13 June 2025 by the Department of State Services, the DSS, and counterterrorism units. Their arrest was made in connection with cross border criminal activities bordering on arms trafficking and terrorism.

The case was presided over by Justice Nuraddeen Muhammed Bello of High Court 23 in Sokoto. Delivering judgment in the matter, the judge found all three defendants guilty of the charges that had been filed against them.

On the basis of that conviction, the court proceeded to sentence the three convicts to death by hanging. The ruling brought to a close the trial that had followed their arrest by the security agencies the previous year.

In addition to the death sentences, the court ordered the forfeiture of all monetary exhibits recovered from the convicts to the federal government. The decision means that the funds tied to the case are to be surrendered to the state as part of the outcome of the trial.
