Trump targets Exxon and Chevron, demands lower prices at the pump

President Donald Trump has taken aim at big oil as gas prices hold above $4 a gallon nationwide, claiming top energy executives are making too much money off the war with Iran, according to Fox 26 Houston. Speaking from the Oval Office, the president singled out Exxon Mobil and Chevron after both companies posted massive profits, demanding they cut their retail prices at the pump and give some of that back to the public. The remarks came one day after oil prices dropped 5% to about $80 a barrel following his announced pause on new U.S. strikes against Iran.

President Donald Trump has taken aim at big oil as many Americans feel the pain at the pump, with gas prices holding above $4 a gallon nationwide, according to Fox 26 Houston. The president claimed that top energy executives are making too much money off the war with Iran.

Speaking from the Oval Office, the president singled out Exxon Mobil and Chevron specifically after both of those companies posted massive profits, the station reported.

Trump demanded that the companies cut their retail prices at the pump and, in his words, give some of that back to the public, according to Fox 26 Houston.

The station reported that the remarks came one day after oil prices dropped 5% to about $80 a barrel.

That drop followed Trump's announced pause on new U.S. strikes against Iran, which the station said signaled that a peace deal could be close, though it cautioned that the term was being used loosely after months of back-and-forth negotiations.

According to Fox 26 Houston, the average price at the pump was around $4.09 a gallon, keeping pressure on the issue as the president pressed the oil companies over their pricing.
