Minneapolis marks Prince Week with sing-along and concerts

Minneapolis is marking Prince Week with concerts, a special Twins night and a large sing-along on Saturday, leading up to what would have been the musician's 68th birthday and 10 years since his death.

Minneapolis is celebrating Prince Week, a series of events honoring the late musician across the city, according to LiveNOW FOX. The week began on Wednesday and runs until June 7, the date of Prince's birthday, with music and gatherings planned throughout the coming days.

Speaking to the broadcaster, Fox 9 Minneapolis morning anchors Hannah Flood and Chinoo Hurd described a packed schedule of activities. They said the celebrations would build toward a large sing-along on Saturday in the downtown area, where organizers hope to draw a major crowd of fans.

According to the anchors, the week opens with a special Prince night at Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins. The team planned to play Prince music during the game, which sold out, and offered a ticket package that included a Twins and Prince bomber jacket for supporters attending the event.

A major show is scheduled for the Armory, a large downtown Minneapolis venue, where the Revolution, Prince's band, will perform. The anchors said the band remains local and still appears regularly, and that the venue would host a large celebration as part of the week's programming.

Other well-known artists were also expected in the city for the festivities, including Tevin Campbell, Chaka Khan and Miguel. The anchors noted that Chaka Khan had taken part in an event the previous night at First Avenue, the famous downtown Minneapolis music club closely associated with Prince's career.

The celebrations lead up to the sing-along on Saturday, set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on June 6 near the downtown Prince Memorial at 101 North 9th Street. A choir will help lead the songs, and the idea, the anchors said, is for people to join a large block party and sing together at one of the city's Prince mural memorials.

The events coincide with what would have been Prince's 68th birthday on Sunday and mark 10 years since his death in 2026. Both anchors, who said they were born and raised in Minnesota, spoke about how deeply Prince remains entrenched in the state's culture, according to LiveNOW FOX.
