President Donald Trump has announced that he is nominating Lance Schroer to serve as the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE.
The president made the announcement directly, taking to social media to confirm his choice for one of the most prominent law enforcement roles in his administration.
According to Trump, Schroer brings more than 29 years of law enforcement experience in Oklahoma to the position, pointing to a long career in the field.
Schroer is a former Oklahoma state trooper and a United States Marine, a background that the president highlighted in presenting him for the role.
Trump described his nominee in glowing terms, calling Schroer a patriot with real operational experience and a proven leader.
In the same announcement, the president drew attention to his own political record in the nominee's home state, noting that he won all 77 of Oklahoma's counties in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
The nomination requires Senate confirmation. If confirmed, Schroer would replace the acting director, David Benchirella, and would become the first Senate-confirmed ICE director in about 11 years, with the president urging the Senate to act without delay.
