The FBI has unveiled a comprehensive security operation for FIFA World Cup 2026 games in Atlanta, deploying counter-drone technology, SWAT teams, bomb squads, and human trafficking task forces. The event zone has been designated a no-drone zone, with authorities prepared to intercept any unauthorised drones using specialised technology.
FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge confirmed that there are currently no known threats to the FIFA games in the Atlanta area. However, officials warned that hoax threats will not be tolerated and that all threats made by phone, text, email or social media will be treated as federal crimes and investigated accordingly.
The security apparatus includes bomb technicians from the FBI working alongside Atlanta Police Department to respond to suspicious packages and vehicles. SWAT teams will maintain high visibility around all FIFA events and matches, positioned to deploy at a moment's notice to any type of threat in the city.
Human trafficking is a significant concern during large-scale international events. The FBI has activated specialised task forces to monitor for trafficking activity throughout the summer, working with victim advocacy organisations to identify traffickers and assist victims. Officials noted there are more than 1,000 active human trafficking cases nationwide.
Local law enforcement partners have been trained at the FBI's National Counter-UAS Training Centre in Huntsville, Alabama. Teams from the FBI, US Marshals, Atlanta Police Department and Customs and Border Protection will be deployed throughout the event to track, assess and disable unauthorised drones, as reported by Fox News.
