Trump Warns Iran Clock Is Ticking: Move Fast or Face Harder Strikes

President Trump tells Axios the clock is ticking for Iran, warning of much harder military action if Tehran does not come with a better deal offer.

President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric against Iran on Sunday, warning in a phone call with Axios that the clock is ticking for the Iranian regime and that if it does not come forward with a better offer for a deal, they are going to get hit much harder. The stark warning came as U.S. officials confirmed the administration wants a diplomatic resolution but is prepared to use overwhelming military force if negotiations collapse.

Trump followed up his private warning with a public post on Truth Social, writing: For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there wont be anything left of them. The message represents the most direct threat from the president since the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz intensified earlier this month, with U.S. naval forces and Iranian assets in close proximity.

The warning comes days after Trump returned from a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, where the two leaders discussed the Iran crisis among other issues. U.S. officials say China committed to not providing material support to Iran, a significant diplomatic win that has further isolated Tehran. However, no breakthrough on a nuclear deal was achieved during the trip.

The administration has maintained a dual-track approach of maximum pressure combined with willingness to negotiate. Officials familiar with the discussions say Trump rejected Iran latest offer as insufficient, demanding more comprehensive restrictions on its nuclear program and an end to its support for proxy militias across the Middle East. Tehran has so far refused to meet these expanded conditions.

Senator Chris Van Hollen, a Maryland Democrat, accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of pulling Trump into a broader conflict with Iran. Speaking on NBC Meet the Press, Van Hollen argued that Netanyahu found someone willing to do his dirty work, referring to the escalating U.S. military posture in the region following the drone strike on the UAE Barakah nuclear plant.

The Pentagon has deployed additional carrier strike groups to the Persian Gulf region and placed forces across the Middle East on elevated alert status. Military analysts say the current force posture exceeds what was in place during previous tensions with Iran, suggesting contingency planning for strikes is well advanced should diplomacy fail.

Iran has responded defiantly to Trump threats, with senior officials stating they will not negotiate under duress. The standoff has driven global oil prices above four dollars and fifty cents per gallon domestically and triggered emergency G7 meetings to coordinate a response to the disruption in maritime shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, where 81 vessels have already been rerouted since the crisis began.
