A man has been stabbed to death inside his own apartment in the Longwood section of the Bronx, and police believe the killer was his neighbour, News 12 reported. Investigators have now released new images of the suspect as they search for the person responsible for the deadly attack, hoping that members of the public will be able to help identify him and track him down.
Police are looking for the man they say fatally stabbed the victim inside the Longwood apartment. According to the landlord of the building, the victim and his attacker knew each other and had in fact been living together for years before the incident that ended in the killing, a detail that has added to the unsettling nature of a case unfolding in a quiet corner of the borough.
Surveillance video shows officers responding to 1006 Longfellow Avenue just before two o'clock the previous afternoon. Inside the apartment, they found a man with a fatal stab wound to the chest, the grim discovery that set the murder investigation in motion and turned the residential address into an active crime scene.
Investigators say the suspect used a knife to carry out the killing and then ran from the scene immediately afterwards. With the attacker still at large, police have appealed to the public for assistance, putting out images of the man they are now trying to find in connection with the death of his apparent housemate.
Adding to the disturbing nature of the case, neighbours believe the body had been inside the apartment for about a week before it was finally discovered. Many of them said they had repeatedly reported a foul smell coming from the unit to the landlord in the days beforehand, without realising what lay behind the door.
In a phone call with News 12, the landlord said he had been renovating units inside the two-story home, and that it was a worker sent to check on the source of the smell who ultimately made the chilling discovery. The case is being handled out of the 41st Precinct, where police are continuing their search for the suspect seen in the newly released images.
