Houston police arrest a suspect in the deadly 2024 Curfew Club teen party shooting

Houston police have arrested a suspect in a deadly 2024 shooting at a makeshift teen club in North Houston. Investigators say 19-year-old Jakorian Mouton, who was caught in Beaumont, shot into a crowded pop-up party that had been advertised on social media and was known as the Curfew Club, back in December 2024. Two teenagers were killed in the attack, a 16-year-old and 14-year-old A'Ziria Bankhead, and four other girls were injured. Mouton has now been charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence, roughly a year and a half after the shooting.

Houston police have made an arrest in a deadly shooting that took place at a makeshift teen club in North Houston back in 2024. The case had remained open for roughly a year and a half before investigators identified and detained a suspect. The development brings a measure of progress to an attack that killed two young people and wounded several others.

The person now facing charges is a 19-year-old man named Jakorian Mouton. According to authorities, Mouton was caught in Beaumont, where he was taken into custody before being returned to face the case. His arrest marks the first major step toward holding someone accountable for the violence at the party.

The shooting itself happened at an informal venue rather than an established nightclub. The gathering was a pop-up party that had been advertised on social media and was known as the Curfew Club, a makeshift teen club operating in North Houston. The event drew a crowd of young people on the night of the attack in December 2024.

Investigators say the violence came when the suspect opened fire on the gathering. According to police, Mouton shot into the crowded party, turning what was meant to be a social event for teenagers into the scene of a mass shooting. The gunfire struck multiple people inside the venue.

Two teenagers lost their lives as a result. Among those killed were a 16-year-old and 14-year-old A'Ziria Bankhead, both far too young to have been caught up in such an attack. Their deaths have remained at the center of the case as police worked to identify who was responsible.

The toll did not end there. In addition to the two killed, four other girls were injured in the shooting and required medical attention. The number of young victims underscored the seriousness of the attack and the urgency behind the long effort to make an arrest.

With the suspect now in custody, the case moves into the legal phase. Mouton has been charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence in connection with the shooting. The charges come roughly a year and a half after the December 2024 attack, as the case finally advances toward the courts.
