One person has been shot and killed and another person is in custody following a shooting in Sunrise, in Broward County. Police spent the morning working the scene and pressing forward with their investigation before releasing the first details about what had happened.
The shooting took place in the Sunrise area, near Oakland Park Boulevard and Pine Island. Officers were called to the location and remained there for hours as they gathered evidence and tried to establish the circumstances of the deadly incident.
Aerial footage of the scene showed crime scene investigators focusing on one of the apartment units on the top floor of the building. Investigators were seen taking photographs in the doorway of the unit as part of their work at the site.
According to police, one person was shot and killed, while another person was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Authorities, however, said they would not be releasing the name of the victim or the name of the person detained at this point.
Police also said they were not yet able to say what led up to the shooting. The sequence of events and the motive behind the incident remained among the key questions still to be answered as the investigation continued.
Officers stressed that they believe the case was an isolated situation and that there is no threat to the public in the area. Residents near Oakland Park Boulevard and Pine Island were told that, despite the heavy police presence, their safety was not considered to be at risk.
