A sixteen-year-old boy has been arrested and is facing multiple charges including murder in the deadly shooting of twenty-three-year-old Reina Caceres in University Heights in the Bronx. The arrest was announced by police who say the teen fired the shot that killed Caceres last Thursday.
The deadly shooting happened between Aqueduct Avenue East and Clinton Place. Police say they were responding to reports of an assault when they found Caceres shot in the eye. She did not survive her injuries.
The arrest came as loved ones of Caceres held a balloon release in her honour. A growing memorial of candles and messages written on pink and white balloons fills the doorsteps of the building where Caceres once lived.
The teen is facing charges of murder, aggravated manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. Police are not sharing the suspect's name because he is a minor.
