A New York City man is facing felony charges in Westchester County after authorities say he was posing as a police officer. County police arrested 26-year-old Dylan Gonzalez in Bronxville on Friday, ending what investigators describe as an effort to pass himself off as law enforcement.
At the time of the arrest, officers say Gonzalez was carrying a loaded gun. The presence of the firearm was a central element of the case, helping to elevate the matter into a felony rather than a lesser charge.
Beyond the weapon, investigators say he was equipped to look the part of an officer. According to police, he had a fake detective shield and an NYPD-issued radio, the kind of gear that could allow someone to convincingly present themselves as a member of the department.
The collection of police-style items did not end there. Authorities say Gonzalez also had ballistic vests and other police-style equipment, as well as multiple phones, a haul that deepened questions about how and where he may have been using the gear.
As a result of the arrest, Gonzalez was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal impersonation. Those two felony counts sit at the center of the case, tying together the loaded gun and the alleged effort to impersonate a police officer.
Following his arrest, Gonzalez was arraigned on the felony charges and is being held in the county jail. He now awaits the next steps in a case that began with what police say was a man moving through the community while dressed and equipped as an officer he was not.
