The claims allege wrongful and negligent acts by federal agents. Those allegations form the basis of the civil rights group's case against the agency.
Among the specific complaints laid out in the filings are allegations of racial profiling. The ACLU says agents improperly singled people out.
The claims also include complaints of unlawful arrests. According to the filings, agents detained people without a proper basis for doing so.
In addition, the filings accuse agents of injuring protesters. That allegation is among the wrongful and negligent acts cited by the group in its claims.
The Department of Homeland Security criticized the filings. DHS accused the civil rights group of siding with people it described as illegal aliens.
The legal action comes amid wider tension over federal immigration enforcement in the region. Sources told ABC News that ICE now plans to target Haitians, following the end of protections for Syrians.
