A major upgrade is coming to one of the busiest rail bridges in the country, with Amtrak awarding contracts to rehabilitate the Dock Bridge, according to News 12.
The bridge spans the Passaic River between Newark and Harrison, New Jersey, and is nearly 100 years old.
The rehabilitation project is valued at $242 million.
It is designed to improve safety and reliability on the aging structure.
The bridge carries more than 200,000 daily Amtrak, NJ Transit and PATH riders.
Crews are expected to begin major construction work by the end of the year.
