A Bremerton man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison after he was caught secretly recording women inside bathroom stalls. He pleaded guilty in the case, which drew attention because of the way the recordings were discovered and because of his prior record.
The case came to light when a woman's husband heard her screaming inside a restroom. She had spotted a cell phone that was video taping her in the stall, alerting those nearby to what was happening.
Bremerton police later examined the man's phone and found images showing that he had stuck his camera under multiple stalls to record victims. The footage indicated that more than one person had been targeted in the restroom recordings.
He pleaded guilty to voyeurism, resisting arrest, and possession of depictions of a minor under 13 years old. The combination of charges reflected both the recording of victims and the material found in the course of the investigation.
For those offenses, the man was sentenced to six and a quarter years in prison. The sentence followed his guilty plea and brought the court case to its conclusion.
The man was already classified as a level three sex offender in Mason County, following a 2015 conviction for residential burglary with sexual motivation. A level three classification means he was considered most likely to reoffend, underscoring the concerns surrounding the case.
