A 65-year-old woman was shot and wounded in the Belmont section of the Bronx overnight, and police are now searching for a group of men who opened fire on the street before fleeing on foot. The shooting happened at around 10:30 on Thursday night on Crotona Avenue near East 183rd Street. Police say several men were involved, and that the group was last seen running down Crotona Avenue shortly after firing the shots that struck the woman, leaving a heavy police presence at the scene that stretched late into the night as officers responded.
The 65-year-old victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries. Despite being caught in the gunfire, she is expected to recover, according to police.
