A 50-year-old man was shot and killed while on a moped early Monday morning in the Van Nest section of the Bronx, according to News 12 New York. The station described a horrifying scene as the shooting unfolded.
A witness, Daryl Williams, described the chaos on Sagamore Street, where the 50-year-old man was shot to death at around 6 in the morning, the station reported. He said he jumped out of his bed when it happened.
The man's body lay next to his motorbike for hours while police canvassed the scene, according to News 12. Officers worked to gather what they could from the area.
Family and friends called the man Ray and sent him love as his body was placed into the medical examiner's van, the station reported. Those who knew him described the loss as a horrible sight to witness.
One person who knew him said the shooting felt random, according to the station. He said they had not even known what happened and only found out after waking up.
Another person said the last time he saw the man was at 4 o'clock that morning, when he was on his motorcycle in the rain and they talked, the station reported. He said he did not understand how the killing could have happened.
At least eight evidence markers were left on the ground at the scene, according to News 12. Each of them could potentially lead police closer to the shooter, the station reported.
