A survivor is telling her story publicly for the first time. A woman is speaking out after she was attacked and sexually assaulted inside her Brooklyn home.
The attack happened while she was asleep. A 43-year-old woman was sleeping when a man broke into her third-floor apartment window, put a pillow over her head, tied her wrist, then sexually assaulted her.
The case is not new, even if her account is only surfacing now. It happened back in October.
Her decision to come forward is tied to how the case has moved. The victim is speaking out now because she says she is frustrated with the investigation.
Police have put out an image in the hope of identifying the attacker. The NYPD released a photo of the suspected attacker.
The same face has surfaced in a separate case on Long Island. Police there released the same photo after they say the man also burglarized another woman's home in Roosevelt last year.
For the victim, the worry is that the suspect is still out there. She said she was disappointed the two police jurisdictions did not seem to align on catching someone who has now done this twice and could do it again, and that people need to be on high alert. Nassau County police say they are working with the NYPD, and the NYPD says the investigation remains ongoing.
