A woman has died following a hit-and-run in Corona, Queens, and police are now searching for the driver who left her to die, according to a report by Eyewitness News. The case was covered live from Corona by reporter Crystal Cranmore.
According to police, someone driving a gray Ford mowed down a pedestrian and kept going, leaving the scene without stopping. The vehicle was traveling north on 99th Street when it struck the woman at 57th Avenue.
The collision happened at around 1:30 in the morning. The intersection in Corona was later left littered with bottles, cans and a cart, marking the spot where the pedestrian was hit.
Medics who responded discovered the unidentified victim with severe trauma to her head and body. She was rushed to New York Presbyterian Queens, where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver did not stop after the crash and fled the scene. Neighbors expressed shock and dismay that someone could run a person down without stopping to call for help, describing the incident as very sad and unbelievable.
One resident questioned how a driver could hit someone and keep going without thinking about stopping or calling an ambulance, reflecting the anger felt in the neighborhood after the deadly crash.
