A man from Cypress is now facing a felony charge after police say he threatened to stab staff in the Texas governor's office in a voicemail, according to FOX 26. Authorities say the threat was tied to frustration over blocked anime content.
Investigators identified the man as Joseph Roy Osmet. According to the report, he left what officials described as a pretty explicit voicemail complaining that his Google account proved he was over 18 and demanding that his anime be unblocked.
The case moved quickly once the threat was reported. DPS agents traced the cell phone call to Cypress, and that led to his arrest, the report said.
The charge stems from the threatening language directed at government staff, described in connection with an aggravated assault allegation. Officials noted that a threat like this, if taken seriously, is a serious situation for the people working on the governmental staff.
As the case proceeds, Osmet is also set to undergo a mental health evaluation. That step came as part of how authorities are handling the matter following his arrest.
