An Arkansas man is being held in the Harris County jail, accused of running over his own girlfriend with a pickup truck, according to FOX 26 Houston. The station reported that Jorge Luis Perez is at the center of a case that left the young woman critically hurt after what investigators describe as a deliberate attack.
According to FOX 26, deputies say Perez had been arguing with the 18-year-old while the two were inside a pickup truck. The station said that at some point during that argument, the young woman got out of the truck and away from him.
Rather than simply driving off, investigators say Perez flipped the truck around, FOX 26 reported. The station said he then intentionally crashed the pickup right into the woman he had just been arguing with, turning the vehicle into a weapon.
After striking her, Perez drove away from the scene, according to FOX 26. The station stressed that investigators believe the crash was intentional rather than accidental, a detail that sets the case apart from an ordinary collision.
The 18-year-old was said to be in critical condition at last check, FOX 26 reported. The station relayed that the young woman was left seriously injured after being struck by the truck, though her exact condition was not further detailed.
Perez is now facing aggravated assault charges, FOX 26 reported. The station said those charges could still be upgraded as the investigation continues, and noted that Perez, who like the victim is from Arkansas, remained in the Harris County jail.
