Three suspects are now under arrest for the murder of an 18-year-old man in Hempstead, according to a report by Eyewitness News. The arrests moved a case that dated back to June closer to resolution.
According to the report, a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old are now in the custody of Nassau County Police. A third suspect in the case is 17 years old.
Police say that back in June, the group beat, kicked and stabbed the victim in what investigators described as a gang attack. The assault ended in the young man's death on the street.
At the time he was murdered, the victim was accompanied by two 13-year-olds, according to the account. The attack unfolded in front of the two younger teenagers who were with him.
Investigators said the victim was approached by masked men from behind and ambushed. The assailants came at him from the rear before carrying out the deadly attack.
Police said they do not have a specific reason for why this individual was singled out. The motive behind the targeting of the 18-year-old remained unclear even after the arrests.
According to the report, the two adult suspects have criminal histories. Their prior records were noted as authorities laid out the case against the three people now in custody.
