A woman was killed in a devastating late-night crash on Houston's south side, FOX 26 reported. The wreck unfolded on one of the city's major highways and ended with a driver losing her life.
Police say the crash happened just before midnight. It took place along the westbound lanes of the 610 South Loop, one of the busy roadways that ring the city.
The chain of events began with a large truck that had come to a stop where it should not have been. According to police, an 18-wheeler had stalled on the highway, leaving it sitting in the path of oncoming traffic.
Another driver approaching the spot did not manage to avoid it. Police say a vehicle coming up from behind slammed into the back of the stalled semi.
The impact proved fatal for the person at the wheel of that vehicle. Paramedics rushed the female driver to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The crash underscored the dangers posed by vehicles that come to a halt in live traffic lanes, especially at night when a stalled truck can be hard to see until it is too late.
